Vomint and Diarrhea

Causes of Vomiting and Diarrhea

One of the most common causes of vomiting and diarrhea in pets is dietary indiscretion. In simple terms, this means your pet ate something they shouldn't have. Food allergies can also trigger stomach upset in pets. You may also notice skin rashes, ear infections, or patches of hair loss if allergies are the culprit.

Just like us, our pets can also catch a stomach bug.

Serious causes of stomach upset in pets include kidney failure, liver failure, poisoning, heatstroke, and severe infections.

When to See a Vet

In most cases, your pet will recover from vomiting or diarrhea on his own. However, there are some signs that you should bring your pet in to see the veterinarian.

Non-Emergency Symptoms

If your pet has had diarrhea or vomiting consistently, it may be a good idea your vet. If he has a loss of appetite that lasts longer than one meal, he may also need to be checked out.

You should also give a vet a call if your pet has other symptoms, including lethargy, fever, or unexplained weight loss. If you see blood or parasites in his excrement, your pet needs a checkup.

Emergency Symptoms

There are some situations when vomiting or diarrhea indicates an emergency. If you think they may have eaten something poisonous or a foreign object, this is an emergency. You should also take him to the animal hospital if he has a lot of blood his vomit stools.

If you are in doubt, call our animal hospital. It's better to be safe than sorry.
